Dear Blogger,

First of all, we want you to know that it's not you. It's us.

We have just grow so much over the last few months, we feel like we don't even know each other anymore.

A lot has changed and we just need to move on.

Don't get us wrong, we love you. You are awesome. We're just not in love with you anymore.

No, don't cry! God, now we feel bad.

We have decided to move over to Wordpress. It's just better for the new us. You want that for us, don't you?

We knew you'd understand.

So cheer up, sweet Blogger. We can still be friends. In fact, we'd like that.

Love,

Chelsea and Drew.

RT from @ChrisBrogan- How HE uses Twitter

I am always on the lookout for tools to make your Social Media presence better. You have to know where you are and what you are doing in order to improve.

I have been subscribing to Chris Brogan's RSS for a while now, and he's got some really great stuff to say about social media. I'd highly recommend checking out his blog.

Anywho. His post today included some great info on how he uses Twitter. He has over 80,000 followers, and has been interviewed by some mainstream media outlets on Social Media. So he knows what he's talking about. Here's my favorite part-

"How I Use Twitter

  • Question: You’ve called Twitter the next telephone and the next dialtone. What’s that about?
  • Answer: I have two sources for this. Marcel Lebrun, CEO of Radian6, has this thing about the social phone. He likes to say, “The social phone is ringing. Are you answering?” My interpretation of this is that Twitter (and a few other services) have become as important as dialtone to business and communication in general. My other inspiration is Jeff Pulver, godfather of the VoIP generation, and someone who knew lots about presence and dialtone before anyone else thought to apply it to the computer world. Simply: I think Twitter is a service as useful as the telephone was to the last 100 years.
  • Question: You talk to a lot of people on Twitter with @replies. Why not use direct messages?
  • Answer: I like tweeting out in the open unless the conversation is private for two reasons. One, I like to share ideas with many, in case someone else can chime in and add something of value. MOST times, people know more than me. I prefer sharing @replies so that others might learn and pitch in.
  • Question: You’re on Twitter a lot. Don’t you have a job?
  • Answer: I sure do. I am on and off Twitter throughout the day at many strange hours. I’ve actually cut down tweeting a bit, believe it or not ( the stats are here), but I use it a lot for different reasons: checking in with people, asking questions, learning, and driving awareness to things that matter to me. I love Twitter for those reasons. I love asking people things.
  • Question: I want as many followers as you. How do I get them?
  • Answer: Heck, if it’s just numbers you’re into, there are tons of software out there now that robot-loads your account. I do mine the old-fashioned way. I follow back people who follow me. I don’t have robot answers, but the human answer is: be helpful, share, communicate, use @replies a lot. That’s it. That’s how I did it.
  • Question: You get all these responses for everything you tweet and I don’t. It’s not fair.
  • Answer: I’m just like you. We all start somewhere. Believe me, it’s a meritocracy. There’s no “man” holding you down. Now, you’re never going to surpass the big names and the robot mongers, so don’t try. But really, get to know some folks, talk, make some value, and you’ll get there. I don’t pay attention to all the crazy stuff. I don’t care who ranks higher in whatever. It’s not why I’m there. Make it YOUR Twitter."
Great stuff. Notice the key tips- add value, be helpful, share. THIS is what Twitter is about.

Facebook FanPage Incentive

For everyone who has a Facebook Fanpage set up, here is some incentive to get your fan base up. As soon as you reach 100 fans on your page you can register your own username. This will give your Fanpage significantly more visibility to the public

Check out the article from mashable:

Facebook Page Frenzy Due Today: URLs Available to All

A reminder: Facebook Fanpage URL's are now available. Facebook has switched on Facebook URLs for pages with less than 1000 fans: in other words, almost all Facebook pages will be able to set up facebook.com/yourbrandhere. You’ll be able to register by visiting Facebook.com/username

The Facebook help section reads:

Your Facebook Page must meet two requirements: it must have been live on Facebook prior to the May 31, 2009 cut-off date and have had a minimum 1,000 fans at that time.

This limitation is temporary. All Pages created after May 31, 2009 or that had less than 1,000 fans on that day will be eligible to claim usernames on Sunday, June 28, 2009 if they have more than 25 fans.Update:

Facebook has now increased the minimum number of fans required from 25 to 100. No reason was given for the change, which occurred in the Facebook Help text today.

I thought it might be nice to post the very basic guidelines of twitter. These simple rules will help to ensure that your account does not get put on hold or deleted.

The Twitter Rules

Our goal is to provide a service that allows you to discover and receive content from sources that interest you as well as to share your content with others. We respect the ownership of the content that users share and each user is responsible for the content he or she provides. Because of these principles, we do not actively monitor user’s content and will not censor user content, except in limited circumstances described below.

Content Boundaries and Use of Twitter

In order to provide the Twitter service and the ability to communicate and stay connected with others, there are some limitations on the type of content that can be published with Twitter. These limitations comply with legal requirements and make Twitter a better experience for all. We may need to change these rules from time to time and reserve the right to do so. Please check back here to see the latest.

*Impersonation: You may not impersonate others through the Twitter service in a manner that does or is intended to mislead, confuse, or deceive others

*Privacy: You may not publish or post other people's private and confidential information, such as credit card numbers, street address or Social Security/National Identity numbers, without their express authorization and permission.

*Violence and Threats: You may not publish or post direct, specific threats of violence against others.

*Copyright: We will respond to clear and complete notices of alleged copyright infringement. Our copyright procedures are set forth in the Terms of Service.

*Unlawful Use: You may not use our service for any unlawful purposes or for promotion of illegal activities.

*Verified accounts: You may not use the Verified Account badge unless it is provided by Twitter. Accounts using the badge as part of profile pictures, background images, or in any way implying false verification will be permanently suspended.

Spam and Abuse

Twitter strives to protect its users from spam and abuse. Technical abuse and user abuse is not tolerated on Twitter.com, and will result in permanent suspension. Any accounts engaging in the activities specified below are subject to permanent suspension.

* Serial Accounts: You may not create serial accounts for disruptive or abusive purposes. Mass account creation will result in suspension off all accounts.

* Name Squatting: You may not engage in name squatting Accounts that are inactive for more than 6 months may be removed without further notice. Some of the factors that we take into account when determining what conduct is considered to be name squatting are:

  • the number of accounts created
  • creating accounts for the purpose of preventing others from using those account names
  • creating accounts for the purpose of selling those accounts
  • using feeds of third-party content to update and maintain accounts under the names of those third parties

*Selling user names: Unless you have been specifically permitted to do so in a separate agreement with Twitter, you agree that you will not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, trade or resell the Services for any purpose.

Where "Services" is defined as follows: Your use of Twitter’s products, services and web sites (referred to collectively as the “Services” in this document and excluding any services provided to you by Twitter under a separate written agreement) is subject to the terms of a legal agreement between you and Twitter.

*Malware/Phishing: You may not publish or link to malicious content intended to damage or disrupt another user’s browser or computer or to compromise a user’s privacy.

*Spam: You may not use the Twitter service for the purpose of spamming anyone. What constitutes “spamming” will evolve as we respond to new tricks and tactics by spammers. Some of the factors that we take into account when determining what conduct is considered to be spamming are:

  • If you have followed a large amount of users in a short amount of time;
  • If you have followed and unfollowed people in a short time period, particularly by automated means (aggressive follower churn);
  • If you repeatedly follow and unfollow people, whether to build followers or to garner more attention for your profile;
  • If you have a small number of followers compared to the amount of people you are following;
  • If your updates consist mainly of links, and not personal updates;
  • If a large number of people are blocking you;
  • The number of spam complaints that have been filed against you;
  • If you post duplicate content over multiple accounts or multiple duplicate updates on one account
  • If you post multiple unrelated updates to a topic using #
  • If you post multiple unrelated updates to a trending or popular topic
  • If you repost other user’s content without attribution.
  • If you have attempted to "sell" followers, particularly through tactics considered aggressive following or follower churn.

Your account may be suspended for Terms of Service violations if any of the above is true; accounts created to replace suspended accounts will be permanently suspended.

*Pornography: You may not use obscene or pornographic images in either your profile picture or user background.

Twitter reserves the right to immediately terminate your account without further notice in the event that, in its judgment, you violate these Rules or the Terms of Service.

RT: Your Boss Doesn't Care About the 'Conversation'

I just read this great article by Mack Collier about how to explain the benefits and ROI of social media to business owners. I can tell you, Mr. Client, that actively engaging in social media is how business is going to happen in the near future, and why it matters. I can tell you that engaging in a client base through a very quick, very short method is a great way to stay 'top of mind' with your prospects. I can even give you examples of people who are making money out of their database with social media.

Alas, there is always SOMEONE who says "ok, I get social media and that it's the future. But how can you prove that I'll make more by using it?"

And I always have just said, "Well, I can't. I can't say 'do this, this, and this, and you will make X. It doesn't work like that."

To which they reply, "Well that just doesn't work for me."

I have hit this wall with a few clients, and he explains it quite well. My favorite part:

You have well-positioned/valuable blog, which leads to more interaction, which leads to X, which leads to more sales. You need to determine what ‘X’ is.

I talk a lot about "conversions" vs. "pageviews and SEO." I even wrote about why SEO doesn't matter. This explains that point of view quite well.

Here's the article- http://bit.ly/VTLFt

Stop going after pagerank and start going after conversions!

-Drew.
